Abstract

AbstractDr. F. Ad-dabagh is considered one of the pioneers who founded Psychiatry and developed and helped its advancement according to moral and scientific bases in Iraq in general and Mosul in particular. He was famous in the Arab countries and the world for he was a distinguished psychiatrist, successful administrator, brilliant a professor, a skilful author, and a genious literary writer & politician. Ad-dabagh was born and brought up in Mosul in Imam Aun-eddein Qtr. in 1929. He was interested in science and knowledge in his early life. Dr. Ad-dabagh devoted his time to reading, writing, translation, authorship and scientific research. He obtained bachelor of Medicine and surgery from Baghdad Royal College of Medicine in 1953, and high diploma in psychiatry from the United Kingdom in 1962.Then, he got M.R.C. Psy and F.R.C. Psy. Ad-dabagh founded the psychiatric ward, psychiatric laboratory, and psychological rehabilitation unit in Ajumhury Mosul Hospital in early of 1970s, also he established the Medical Center in Mosul College of Medicine in 1975. Furthermore, he was a lecturer in Mosul Medicine College till he got a full professor of psychiatry. He has a psychiatric approach that intermingled the Muslim physicians and philosophers, and the classical and modern scientific theories, adding to these theories his scientific and encyclopedic experiences in his major. Besides, he came across serious subjects like the cases of adolescence, addiction, juvenile delinquency and sex problems; he treated them boldly and objectively. He died by car accident in 1984.
