Abstract

The study was conducted to detect the effect of addition of 0.03, 0.06 and0.10% potassium sorbate and 0.10, 0.15, 0.20 and 0.30% sodium propionate upon the sensory properties of laboratory made biscuit. The statistical analysis of the results revealed no significant differences (P<0.05) between the propionate treatment (A,B,C,D) and between the sorbate treatment (E,F,G) and the control (H) in most sensory properties of biscuit prior to storage. Upon six month storage of biscuit made with addition of different levels of sodium propionate 20-40C (room temperature) no significant differences (P<0.05) were shown on softness, flakiness and color in comparison with the control . No significant differences (P<0.05) were also revealed among the different treatment in appearance, texture, flavor and overall acceptance while they different significantly than the control (H) with scores of 4.1, 3.7, 3.4 and 3.98 respectively. The potassium sorbate-added biscuit treatment (E,F,G) however, didn t show any significant differences as compared with the control (H) in appearance, softness, flakiness, color and overall acceptance. The sensory evalution results revealed the superiority of the treatment with o.15% sodium propionate and 0.03% potassium sorbate levels of addition as compared with the control so that scored 4.66 and 4.68 respectively, in the overall acceptance against 3.98 for the control.

Abstract

Field experiment was conducted to test the effect of saline water and fertilizers rate on Pisum sativum L. plants . Treatments of the experiment included two levels of water salinity (2, 7 dSm-1) as a main plot and three levels of potash fertilization K2SO4 (44%K) namely 150 control, 300 and 450 kg/Donum as a sub plot. Results indicated that irrigation of plant with saline water 7 dSm-¹ caused a significant decrease in K and P contents specially in the upper parts of the plants , the percentage of the K increased (2.80%) under 2 dSm-¹of irrigation water and 300 kg/ donum fertilizer rate in the upper leaves, However K decreased(1.10%) in lower leaves under 7 dSm-¹ and 300 kg/donum fertilizer. while P increased in pods under same water salinity but with 150kg/ donum potash fertilizer. although P decreased( 0. 3 %) in pods under 7 dSm-¹ salinity water with 150 kg/donum fertilizer. However the results showed irrigation with 7 dSm-¹ saline water and 150kg/ donum fertilizer increased Ca, Mg and Na percentage ( 3.1 ,0.45 ,1.19 % ) in the roots of plants respectively , the lowest Ca ,Mg percentage was in pods of plants irrigated with 7 dSm-¹ saline water and fertilized with 150kg/ donum (0.39,0.05%), beside Na lowest percentage was ( 0.16 %) in upper leaves after using 2 dSm-¹ saline water and fertilized with 300kg/ donum. Accordingly, conclusion could be made that potassium fertilization may reduce the inhibitory effect of increasing salinity of irrigation water on pea.

Abstract

Brucella melitensis isolates were obtained from human infections , and milk which obtained from aborted sheep at Mosul city vicinity . One isolate from each source was used in carrying out this study. Brucella liquid culture was added to sheep milk at 2.5 % for treatments . To first treatment 2 % of yoghurt starter ( Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus and Streptococcus salivarius subsp. thermophilus ( 1: 1 ) ) . Second treatment was carried out without addition of yoghurt starter but the pH was lowered using lactic acid in pattern similar to first treatment . Third treatment was similar to the first treatment but contained buffer to alleviate the reduction in pH , which reduced to 6.1 in comparison to 4.9 of the first treatment . Results showed that there was a parallel reduction in pH value and Brucella number with correlation coefficient of ( r = -0.945 ) for human isolate , and ( r = -0.974 ) for milk isolate . Addition of lactic acid with out starter led to decrease the killing of Brucella as the resulted numbers were three folds higher than the corresponding treatment of human isolate ( 67.7 % killing ) and 1.6 times for milk isolate ( 37.5 % killing ) . Addition of buffer reduced the killing percentage of Brucella and the viable count of Brusella , and it was 5.8 times the corresponding first treatment (17.20% killing ), while the milk isolates was 7 times (13.5 % killing ) at the end of fermentation process .

Abstract

This study was carried out to assess genetic diversity of ten cultivars of Rice (Oryza sativa L.). One of DNA markers based on Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) was used namely DAF markers (DNA Amplification Fingerprint). Six primers were tested, the results showed, that no amplification products using the primers OPD.14 and OPM.5. Two primers (OPX.8 and OPT.2) produced monomorphic band across all cultivars, while only two primers generated polymorphic bands. The number of total bands produced from one of them (OPN.7) were sixteen. Also this primer produced ten polymorphic profiles (DAF patterns) which were unique to the ten cultivars that could be distinguished. The number of total bands generated by primer OPX.1 were thirteen and this primer produced eight polymorphic patterns which was unique for distinguishing six cultivars. This means that DAF markers were able to identify all rice cultivars using only two primers reflecting the high potentialities of these markers for their applications in fingerprinting.

Abstract

The objective of the work was to study the changes in height and stem diameter of sunflower plants during growth stages under hardening conditions to drought tolerance. Field experiments were carried out during the spring season of 2000 and2001. Agricultural practices were made according to recommendations.Asplit-split plots design was used with three replications. The main plots included irrigation treatments:irrigation to100%(full irrigation),75and50%of available water. The sub plots were the cultivars Euroflor and Flame. The sub-sub plots represented four seed soaking treatments:Control(unsoaking), soaking in water ,Paclobutrazol solution(250ppm),and Pix solution(500ppm). The soaking continued for 24 hours then seeds were dried at room temperature until they regained their original weight. Amount of water for each irrigation were calculated to satisfy water depletion in soil using a neutron moisture meter. Results showed that stress 600 and 800Kp caused asignificant decreasing in plan height and stem diameter at most growth stages in both seasons and as a mean of seasons. The decrease in plant height at physiological maturation as a mean of seasons were 12.62 and 14.29%, and stem diameter 11.94 and 9.41%, respectively compared with full irrigation.Euroflor was superior over Flame in plant height at most growth stages during spring season of 2000, while Flame was superior in plant height at most growth stages during spring season of 2001 ,and in stem diameter after 30 days from planting.Soaking the seeds presowing in paclobutrazol and pix solutions decreased plant height at most growth stages in both seasons and as a mean of seasons. The decrease at physiological maturation as amean of seasons were 4.49 and 2.78%compared with unsoaked , and 5.27 and 3.57% compared with soaking in water, respectively. On the other hand, soaking in paclobutrazol and pix solutions increased stem diameter at physiological maturation by 9.78 and 12.18% compared with unsoaked as a mean of seasons. In conclusion, that it could reduce plant height and increase stem diameter to support the plants to drought tolerance by soaking the seeds presowing in water or plant growth regulator

Abstract

An optimization calculation is made to find the optimum properties of combined quadrupole lens which consists of electrostatic and magnetic lens. Both chromatic and spherical aberration coefficients are reduced to minimum values and the achromatic aberration is found for many cases. These calculations are achieved with the aid of transfer matrices method and using rectangular model of field distribution, where the path of charged-particles beam traversing the field has been determined by solving the trajectory equation of motion and then the optical properties for lens have been computed with the aid of the beam trajectory along the lens axis. The computations have been concentrated on determining the chromatic and spherical aberration coefficients in both convergence and divergence planes and the effects of changing both of excitation and effective length of lens are studied.

Abstract

This paper including a gravitational lens time delays study for a general family of lensing potentials, the popular singular isothermal elliptical potential (SIEP), and singular isothermal elliptical density distribution (SIED) but allows general angular structure. At first section there is an introduction for the selected observations from the gravitationally lensed systems. Then section two shows that the time delays for singular isothermal elliptical potential (SIEP) and singular isothermal elliptical density distributions (SIED) have a remarkably simple and elegant form, and that the result for Hubble constant estimations actually holds for a general family of potentials by combining the analytic results with data for the time delay and by using the models of distances.
