Abstract

This study included collecting of 150 specimens of the Iraqi Bird Bulbule Pycnonotus lecuotis mesoptamiae (Pycnotidae , Passeriformes), from the 1st of November 2004 to 30th of October 2005 in the city of Baghdad and its suburbs, in concern of identifying the internal parasite of the digestive tract of these birds and studying the diseases resulted from the infection. The study showed that the bird Bulbule is Parasitized by Four types of Cestodes ,two of them are recorded in this kind of bird in Iraq for the first time ,Paradicranotinae anormalis and Haploparaxis sp. , and the other two are Raillietina tetragona and Allohymenolepsis sp. ,and by two types of Pin Worm(Trematode) that are identified for the first time in the Bird Bulbul , Mosesia Chordilesia and Plagiorchis sp. , Gross study showed that the oral cavity ,pharynx and esophagus had no pathological changes in all infected birds .The muscular stomach looked pale ,nearly brown and corroded ,while the mucosa had rottenness and decay in its grooves .The intestinal walls of the infected birds showed spherical ,small size, solid and rough knots and haemorrhgic bruises. some infected birds developed pale and large in size liver . Histological study showed no pathological changes in the oral cavity, pharynx and esophagus of the infected birds. Chronic inflammations and rottenness has been detected in the glandular stomach and the musculae stomach. The villi of the small intestine of the infected birds appeared to have abnormal shapes, cracked and with lost details compared to the control, beside the hypertrophy of the enteric glandular layer. The caecae and the large intestine were healthy for all the examined birds. The study showed also the presence of common lesions in the same organ and other organs of the digestive tract of the same birds, chronic intestinal inflammation, villi atrophy and hypertrophy accompanied the muscular stomach, the liver and pancreatic inflammation for the same bird with the rate of (10.66%).

Abstract

A study of some biological aspects of the crustacean Isopod procellio scaber was carried out for the period April 2003 to march 2004 . The study consisted reproductive and morphological characteristies such as size , weight and length of the body . The result showed that the highest population density of P. scaber was 1120 individual/m2 in September 2003 and less density 403 ind/m2 in February 2004. The density was generally high in Spring and Autumn, low in Summer and Winter months. An increase of the sexual ratio appear in the females number compared to males number (p < 0.05) during most of year. Present study showed non significant increase in the length and dry weight for females compared to males in most of year months. There were two seasons for reproduction, first starts in February to the ends of August, the second season starts in September,to the end in January. A number of Juveniles recorded during most time of year. While the percentage decreased during the Winter months and nearly disappeared during December. The large size individuals dominated during the Spring season which may be due to their rapid growth. The results showed that the moult individuals in different sizes class present for most year months, in large numbers small sizes class include due to their rapid growth. Life cycle data showed four biological stages: eggs, Manca, Juvenile and Mature stages. The female put between (2-70) eggs per each breed. There is one or tow breed for female in year.

Abstract

Apical meristems, lateral buds, anthers of immature flowers and immature embryos of chickpea ( Cicer arietinum L.) were cultured on MS media with different growth regulators and incubated for 6 weeks at 25-27▫C with 16 hrs photoperiod for callus initiation. Results indicated that 1 and 0.1 mg/l of 2,4-D and BA were suitable for callus initiation when apical meristems and lateral buds were used. While 2 and 0.5 mg/l of both growth regulators were essential for immature embryos. It was noticed that using chickpea anthers of the MS medium must contain 1mg/l 2ip and 0.5 mg/l IAA. However, MS medium supplemented with 1-3 mg/l of BA and 2,4-D respectively was good for callus initiation from lateral buds, anther and immature embryos. However, callus differentiations in chickpea were successfully obtained when 2-3 mg/l of IAA, 2-2.5mg/l of kinetin or 0.1 mg/l of NAA and 2 mg/l of kinetin were used. Data of regeneration and culture maintenance revealed that half strength of MS medium supplemented with 2, 2.5 mg/l of IAA and kinetin respectively or 0.005mg/l and 0.05 mg/l of NAA and BA respectively was the best. The importance of this method in propagation were used for improving and screening resistant chickpea germplasm aginst Fusarium wilt disease.

Abstract

The activity of the aqueous extract of Olea europaea was tested at concentrations of 8, 15 or 20 mg/kg of body weight on lipid profile in twenty female local rabbits. These animals were randomly divided into four groups (five animals in each group). Three groups were dosed orally with the concentrations mentioned above, while the last was administered with distilled water and considered as a control group. These animals were orally dosed by aqueous extract using a micropipette for 30 days. The results showed that there was a significant (P<0.05) decrease in cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein (LDL-cholesterol), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL-cholesterol) concentrations and atherosclerosis index means for the three treated groups with the aqueous extract of olive fruit compared with the control group. The results also showed that there was a significant (P<0.05) increase in high density lipoprotein (HDL-cholesterol) for the three treated groups as compared with the control group. In conclusion, the diet rich in olive fruit extract may decrease the risk of coronary heart disease by inhibiting LDL oxidation and improving the lipid profile.

Abstract

The hydatid materials were collected and studied, so they were contained 50 fertile human hydatid cases {33 (66%) females and 17 (34%) males}. They were collected from Al-Ramadi General Hospital during the period from December, 2003 to July, 2004 .Cysts were observed in 40 (80%) from the liver, 5 (10%) from the lungs, 3 (6%) from the kidney and 2 (4%) cysts from urinary bladder. The specimens were taken from patients of different ages. The in vitro viability of protoscoleces was assessed on the basis of flame cell activity and eosein exclusion, which were considered as criteria to determine the death or viability of protoscoleces. In addition to this movement (flame cell activity), another motility like constriction – relaxation (invagination - evagination) in the protoscoleces was also noticed. Both types of movement were examined under light microscope. The motility of protoscoleces examined under effect of three different temperature degrees 25оC, 37оC, and 40оC was within 15 minutes. It showed steadily increase with rising temperature. Flame cell activity increased as high as 70.01% at 40оC, while the motility with constriction -relaxation movement increased as 100.0% at 40оC. The volumes of hydatid cysts were also studied, so they were measured. Therefore, the volumes of human hydatid cysts were the highest in the lung and this is may be due to the spongy texture of the lung tissues. There is relationship between the volumes of Hydatid cysts and the viability was recorded.

Abstract

Four antimony compounds were used in this inves as additives to retard combustion of unsaturated polyester and epoxy resins, namely: 1. Tetraethyl ammonium tribromoethylantimonates (additive I). 2. Tetraethyl ammonium chlorodibromoethylantimonates (additive II). 3. Tetraethyl ammonium trichloroethylantimonates (additive III). 4. Tetraethyl ammonium bromodichloroethylantimonates (additive IV). The effects of these additives on flammability of unsaturated polyester and epoxy resins have been studied by using sheets of the resins with weight percentages of (0.5,1.0,1.5,2.0,2.5&3.0%) of the additives in dimensions of (150 X150X3)mm .Three standard test methods were used to measure the flame retardation which are: (ASTM:D -2863), (ASTM:D-635)and (ASTM:D-3014). The results obtained from these tests indicated that, additive I has a high efficiency as flame retardant causing , self – extinguishing (S.E.) at the percentage of (2.0%) for unsaturated polyester resin and the percentage (2.5%) for epoxy resin. Self – extinguishing (S.E.) of additives II and IV were at the percentage of (2.5%) for unsaturated polyester resin and (3.0%) in the case of epoxy resin. Additive III showed low effect on flammability in both resins

Abstract

This study is attempt to improve thermal isolation through measuring thermal conductivity composite of on polyester resin with fillers of (TiO2, ZnO, Acrylonitril, wood flour Coconut (Wf). The grain size of the fillers is 200 µm. The number of samples is (16) in addition to the virgin sample; these samples are prepared by cast molding method for polyester with filler volume fractions (5%, 10%, 15% and 20%). Shore hardness tests were used to measure the hardness and Lee disk method for thermal conductivity. The experimental results showed that the (20% ZnO) sample has the maximum value of thermal conductivity where (20% w.f) has minimum thermal conductivity .on the other hand (15% ZnO) sample give the maximum value of hardness where (20% w.f) sample gave the minimum value of hardness. From this study there is an important factor that should be observed that is the relationship between hardness and thermal conductivity. The study prove that the experimental results satisfy the theoretical assumptions in that the additive material (fillers) of metals base increase thermal conductivity where the material of cellulose base decrease the thermal conductivity and give good thermal isolation but with low hardness and all the result above the refry sample .

Abstract

This paper is concerned with pre-test single and double stage shrunken estimators for the mean () of normal distribution when a prior estimate (0) of the actule value () is available, using specifying shrinkage weight factors () as well as pre-test region (R). Expressions for the Bias [B()], mean squared error [MSE()], Efficiency [EFF()] and Expected sample size [E(n/)] of proposed estimators are derived. Numerical results and conclusions are drawn about selection different constants included in these expressions. Comparisons between suggested estimators, with respect to classical estimators in the sense of Bias and Relative Efficiency, are given. Furthermore, comparisons with the earlier existing works are drawn.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to approximate the solution of the parabolic partial differential equations (heat equations) using Bellman's method with the cooperation of the G-spline interpolation formula. The partial differential equation will then be changed into a system of the first order ordinary differential equation. The resulting system may be then solved easily by using the fundamental matrix solution. In this paper, the Bellman's method may be considered as a generalization to the usual Bellman's method with an arbitrary ordinary derivative.
