Maliki Jurists of Maghreb in Ibn Asakir's "History of Damascus"

Abstract

After reviewing the jurists of Maghreb mentioned in Ibn Asakir's "History of Damascus", it was evident that most of them were originally narrators, but they had a special interest in Islamic Fiqh. This is because of their need to it in handling their life in accordance with sharia. Most of the scholars of Maghreb were from Maliki Ideology because it was the dominant ideology in the region. Also because this school is committed to Quran and Prophetic Hadith. When those scholars moved to Sham , as Ibn Asakir mentioned, they had great respect by its rulers. So, they assumed political and religious positions in Damascus.
