Synthesis, characterization, antimicrobial and antifungal evaluation of novel [1,3]-Benzodiazepine derivatives incorporated with nicotinic acid under Microwave irradiation

Abstract

AbstractA series of some newly [1,3]-benzodiazepine derivatives of Nicotinic acid hydrazide have been synthesized bytreating the hydrazide-hydrazones of nicotinc acid hydrazide with two different phthalimide, glycenephthalimide and p-amino benzoic acid phthalimide using the microwave irradiation technique to give a newlyseven-membered ring containing two nitrogen atoms. This method is facile and efficient and afforded 1,3-Benzodiazepine derivatives in an excellent yield. The structures of synthesized compounds were established onthe basis of IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and mass spectral data. The microbial inhibitory effect of the new agentshas been evaluated in vitro against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as antifungal activity. Themost significant antimicrobial activity was obtained with compound 18 in addition to the antifungal activity.
