Effect of supplementary irrigation on production of three wheat crops varietiesin Mosul governorate of Iraq northern

Abstract

AbstractThe objective of this study is to determine the effect of supplementary irrigation for three varieties of wheat crop, Sham 6, Ebaa 99, and Begal in Mosul area in order to access the maximal yield. The experiment was conducted on field of Mosul Technical institute during the season 2012/2013 for the cultivation of wheat varieties ; using different irrigation levels (control , 10 , 20 mm) 10 mm and 20mm represented as 50% and 100% of field capacity, with un irrigation interval 15 day. The crop properties include; plant height, length of spike, number of grain per spike, number of spikes per square meter, 1000-grain weight, biological weight harvester index, grain weight (yield), and increase in the percentage of yield were measured. Results showed that the supplementary irrigation is significantly effected on crop production at level 100% irrigation 5764.433,. 4653.23, 4093.617 kg/h for Begal, Ebaa 99 and Sham 6 respectively. Also results have shown that the percentage increase in yield at 100 % of field capacity were 72.24, 68.14% 61.92 , for, Begal, Ebaa 99 and Sham 6 respectively under irrigation 463 mm, supplementary irrigation at level 100% showed that Begal Varity gave signi- ficant different, on number of grain in spike 45.33 grain/spike, weight of 1000-grain 27.1g, number of spike /m2 321.66, biological harvest 8283.33kg/h and harvest index 33.88% In this study show that supplementary irrigation play important role on the yield and yield components of wheat production in this study.
