Abstract

Asceticism trend was not a new trend during the Abbasid period, it had roots during the previous periods. There were many poems in asceticism during the early Islamic period and the Umayyad period. The main subject of these poems is to be detached from the pleasures of life. This type of art became a distinctive art during the Abbasid period as a reaction to the irreligion during that period.
