Effect of spraying with salicylic and ascorbic acid in some physiological and productive traits of two faba bean cultivars

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted in winter season 2015-2016, in the field of field crops department/agriculture college/ university of Anbar (alternative place in Abu-Graib), in clay salty loam soil. In order to investigate the effect of spraying three concentration of salicylic acid with 0, 160, 320 mg L-1, and ascorbic acid with 0, 160, 320 mg L-1, in some physiological and productivity traits of broad bean cultivars (Local and Spanish). The experiment was took place using Split-Split plot in randomized complete block disgne with three replicate. The results were summarized as follow:The concentration 320 mg L-1 of salicylic acid has achieved highest significant average of plant dry weight, proline number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pods, seed yield with 7.73 ton ha-1, and lowest percentage of H2O2.While the concentration of 160 mg L-1 achieved the highest results harvest index by 62.76%. The concentration of 320 mg ASA L-1 achieved lowest significant percentage of H2O2 in plant and highest average of number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pods, seed yield with 7.79 ton ha-1, and harvest index, while those concentration did not significantly differ in plant dry weight and proline percentage in plant. Local variety was significantly superior in plant dry weight while Spanish variety was superior in number of pods per plant by 12.57pod, seed yield with 7.78 ton ha-1, and harvest index by 7.80%, and the varieties did not significantly differ in other traits. The three-way interaction between of the study factors significantly affected in all studied traits. Spanish variety that sprayed with 320 mg SA L-1 and 160 mg ASA L-1 gave highest proline in plant. As well as, it gave highest average of number of pods per plant and seed yield with 9.64 ton ha-1, when sprayed with the highest concentration from both acids while, the local variety when sprayed with 320 mg L-1from both acids gave highest average of number of seed per pod with 4.27seed.
