Travel literature at Hashemi

Abstract

This paper is a contribution to the literature of trips which depends on narration, telling about peoples, their habits and traditions, describing all the places and parts spotted by the globetrotters, and recording what they had seen honestly and faithfully. The writings of these globetrotters led to the emergence of “trips literature”. The Iraqi litterateur Mohammad Al-Hashimee contributed to this genre of literature through recording what he had seen during his trip which began from Damascus on February, 5, 1921, and ended in Baghdad after passing through Heet city on March, 13, 1921. The paper consisted of two sections:The first section gave a brief biography of the globetrotter andidentified the linguistic meaning of trip, the concept of trips literature, and some of the characteristics of this type of literature. The second section examined the text of the trip (from Damascus to Baghdad) which was published in al-Muqtataf magazine in 1921.
