Teaching English Grammar at University Level A Task-Based Approach

Abstract

Teaching grammar plays a central role in every English Second Language/English Foreign Language teacher's classroom. At a first look, one might think that teaching grammar is just a matter of explaining grammar rules to students. However, teaching grammar effectively is a much more complicated matter than that. The task-based approach (henceforth TBA), a recent teaching approach, is followed in this study to teach grammar tense for students of the second stage, English department, College of Education for Humanities Sciences, Mosul University. It assimilates the achievements of modern language teaching theories. It is presumed to be an effectual method in enhancing learners' language potency. However, applying experimental studies is rarely found in the field of grammar teaching. This paper then tries to internalize TBA into grammar to investigate its validity and feasibility or avail in grammar teaching to make it more effective.
