Self assessment of mathematics teachers in Saudi Arabia in the light of NCTM standards for professional development

Abstract

The current study aimed to determine the availability of NCTM standards for professional development in the performance of mathematics teachers in Saudi Arabia according to their self assessment. The study sample consisted of (360) female teachers of mathematics for all educational stages in the public schools in Riyadh city. The researcher followed the descriptive approach in this study. The study tool is the self-assessment scale of mathematics teachers in the light of NCTM standards for professional development was prepared by the researcher.The results of the study showed that most of the indicators in the "Self-assessment scale of mathematics teachers in the light of the NCTM professional development standards" were classified to a very high degree of applicability. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the averages of the responses of mathematics teachers on the scale of "self assessment of mathematics teachers in light of NCTM standards for professional development" attributed to the stage, qualification, specialization and years of experience.In light of the results of the study, the researcher presented a number of recommendations that may contribute to the development of programs for the development of inservice mathematics teachers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
