Self-in and Other-in Group in English and Arabic Preschooler Songs: Linguistic Analysis

Abstract

Childhood is a critical period in human life and many kids who are brought up in kindergarten atmospheres, spontaneously develop their linguistic potentialities and smoothly integrated with others socially. Junior songs bare many linguistic traits, that can manufacture linguistic patterns as a successful method to amalgamate their consumers with grownups world and unconsciously direct them towards language use. Thus, this study aims to practically investigate the main stylistic traits of eighty preschooler songs in both English and Arabic language. Conducting Stockwell's (2005) approach in cognitive stylistics (the essentiality of writer's creativity and reader's interpretation), Widdowson's (1992) view of how to integrate literature with language and their essential role in pedagogical prospects, and basing on Short and Leech's (2007) model, concerning lexical, syntactic and figurative devices. This study concludes that, the aforementioned levels exhibit several pedagogical socio stylistic prospects in both languages, that transporting child mind from his or her simple world conventions 'self-in mode, simple sentences, patchy grammar, concrete words, non finite verbs, etc.' to adult world ' other-in group, compound and complex sentences, abstract words, finite verbs, etc.', resulting in elevating preschool children potentialities linguistically, culturally, and socially.
