Jewish Education in Palestine in the Late Ottoman period until the end of the First World War

Abstract

The Ottoman Empire expressed its interest in the educational aspect of the states and their subordinate political establishments, including the state of Palestine, which appreciated the attention of the Ottoman state due to the sacredness of the Holy House, although education at that time was often religious until the educational program was gradually developed.Education in Palestine was not limited to the Arab Muslims; the Christians had their own education, as did the Jewish colonizers, whose numbers increased especially after their emigration from Andalusia in 1492 or Europe seeking stability in Jerusalem and other Palestinian cities so they lived under the auspices of the Ottoman Empire practicing all kind of activities including the educational ones, in which the Jews showed great interest in. Although education was limited at the beginning to a religious education, but later it developed significantly and the Jews began establishing and opening schools in Jerusalem and the rest of the Palestinian cities.
