The strategic weight of meat production and table eggs in Diyala province in Iraqi food security

Abstract

The total production of the province of Diyala of red meat, poultry meat and table eggs qualifies it to be a strategic province in terms of the production of meat and eggs in Iraq, and therefore it has an important strategic weight in food security in Iraq in general. Throughout this study, it has been clear that the province of Diyala produces (8,60%) of red meat , (3.15%) of poultry meat, and (10.84%) of table eggs of Iraq's total production during the research period (2002-2016), despite the existence of many constraints and determinants that obstacle the production process such as the spread of diseases , lack of interest in livestock ,the deteriorating security situation as well as the competition by the imported products.
