EFFECT OF CONCENTRATION AND DATE OF FOLIAR APPLICATION OF PIX ON YIELD AND YLELD COMPONENTS IN SORGHUM (Sorghum bicolor )

Abstract

Afield study was conducted at the experimental farm, coll.of Agric.univ.of Baghdad,ALjadiriyah.during spring and autumn seasons of 2017.The main objective was to investigatethe effect of pix concentration(0,250,500,750)mg.L-1and three times of foliarapplication(4,5,6)weeks after emergence on growth grain yield and itُs componentsof sorghum cv.Bohooth.70.Layout of the experiment was R.C.B.D.arranged in split.Plots with three replications.Times of foliar application were used as main plot, whilepix concentration was used as sub-plots.Results showed Foliar application of Pix at750 mg.L-1resulted in a significant reduction in plant height in both seasons 29.4 and26.8cm compare with control treatment respectively this may be due to decrease internodelength which in turn increase stem diameter and there by reduce % at lodging.Foliar application of pix at 250 mg L-1significantly increased grain yield amountedto 8.26 and 8.45 ton.ha-1for spring and autumn season respectively. There were nosignificant effect of the time of foliar application for this growth retardant(pix).on alltriats.Although, that there were some increment in grain yield when foliar applicationof pix at all concentration were applied after 6 weeks from emergence and the highergrain yield in spring and autumn seasons (8.37,8.51)ton.ha-1 respectively were obtainedwhen plants of sorghum sprayed with pix at.250 mg. L-1.
