Library of the College of Education for Women at Basra University: A field study

Abstract

The study aims to analytically identify the library of the Faculty of Education for Woman at the University of Basrah in terms of services, and the extent of use by its beneficiaries, the office collection preparation, as well as the qualifications of its human resources.The research follows the descriptive approach (case study), the data is collected through observation and interview with the secretary of the Library of the Faculty of Education for Women and human resources, in addition to distributing a questionnaire addressed to the actual beneficiaries, where (120) form were distributed; (107) forms were retrieved making an 89.16% from the total number of the distributed questionnaire forms. A random sample was adopted and (13) forms were excluded due to inaccuracy.The study reached several results, including:1- The small spatial space of the library, resulting in overlapping sections with each other.2- Lack of equipment and furniture available in the library.3- The lack of a separate committed budget for the library, which negatively affects its evaluation in the services and the development of its office collection4- Lack of availability of specialized human resources in the field of information and libraries at the college library.5- There is an electronic library, but there is no internet subscription line.The study reached the following recommendations:1- The need to expand the building of the library, like building another floor for the library and making each of its sections separate from the rest.2- An increase in the number of computers and furniture for the library.3- The Provision of a committed budget for the library to improve the situation.4- The necessity of recruiting human resources with expertise in the field of information and libraries.The study includes (50) tables and (9) appendixes.
