Child labor - causes and ways of confrontation from the perspective of social work

Abstract

Child labor is one of the problems that afflict many advanced and late societies, due to its association with many social and environmental factors in which children live, including conditions related to the child himself, or conditions related to crises and social changes. Experienced by the Iraqi society. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of international bodies and organizations, so they enacted laws that prevent their employment at an early age, because of its effects that hinder their proper development and upbringing, because their work reflects the deprivation of work and knowledge, especially that they are in a critical age and the beginning of mental, social and psychological development. The use of the descriptive approach to describe the phenomenon of child labor from the perspective of social service, and the research showed the most important conclusions that poverty and the decline in the family’s standard of living are among the causes of child labor, as well as school dropout. One of the most important recommendations is the necessity of identifying ways to confront this phenomenon, which has become a danger to the children of Iraq. The importance of monitoring student dropouts through school administrations and organizing parents ’meeting on an ongoing basis, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
