Historical methodology in university theses with a case study at the universities of Basra and Mosul

Abstract

Historians have begun to realize the necessity of upgrading contemporary ideas and pausing long and reflecting clearly on questions about the importance of studying the curricula of our written historical sources in order to identify the development of historical writing by discussing the methods and trends of writing university theses and masters + doctorates), although there are many Of the studies in this direction, they are described as descriptive studies more than analytical or critical, and that the method of selection, not the briefing or comprehensiveness, is prevalent in them, whether in the nature of resources or in the syntactic or stylistic approach to writing, and on this basis the research specialized in studying the historical methodology in the messages University in the light of its main foundations, in terms of its nature, its issues, tools, rulings and results. The research focused on a case study at the universities of “Basra and Mosul in the field of modern history. And how to build curricula, the nature of treatment and the establishment of props in order to reach the lofty goals in the ambitious university historical curriculum, and thus the research is based on Three names, namely knowledge of the historical methodology, the clarification of the nature of university theses (masters + doctorate), and a case study of the curriculum in history at the universities of Basra and Al-Mawsili.
