The Effect of Physical Activity and Dietary Awareness Program on Depression among Sedentary Female in Iraq

Abstract

Abstract:Background: The aim of this study is to ascertain whether a physical activity and dietary awareness program could improve Depression among Sedentary Female in Iraq.Methods: A 12-weeks physical activity and dietary awareness intervention program randomised controlled trial was conducted on 44 undergraduate female students (experimental, n = 22; control, n = 22). Both experimental and control groups completed practical tests at baseline, post-test1, and post-test2, but only the experimental group participants received the intervention program. A field tests were used to measure all the variables. Results: The final sample consisted of 22 experimental participants and 22 controls with complete data. After controlling for demographic and other confounding factors, the analysis of the post-test scores of the experimental and control groups revealed that the difference between the mean scores of the two groups is statistically significant in depression: (p=0.918) Conclusions: A physical activity and dietary awareness program can positively influence sedentary female’ depression.
