PHENOTYPIC AND GENOTYPIC VARIABILITY OF RICE UNDER SEEDING RATES

Abstract

A field trial was conducted at Field Research Station, Abu- Ghraib of Agricultural Research Office during 2001 and 2002 .To investigate of genotypic and phenotypic variability, PCV and GCV of rice under different seeding rates.Split plot arrangement according to RCBD with three replicates. Seeding rates (80,120,160,200 and 240 kg.ha-1)occupied main plots, while genotypes(15 different genotypes)occupied sub plots. Results showed phenotypic and genotypic variability were differed under seeding rates.Phenotypic variability was higher than genotypic variability and increased with increasing seeding rates. The highest values of phenotypic and genotypic variability for paddy yield was attained under 200 kg.ha-1 around from 2.5 and 2.3 for first season and 5.8 and 5.5 for second season.PCV and GCV values were differed by seeding rates for studied traits.PCV was greater than GCV.The highest value for paddy yield was attained under 80 kg.ha-1(25.1 and 24.2%) at first season and (28.5 and 27.3%) under 200kg.ha-1 at second season.GCV for paddy yield around 20.6-24.2% at first season and 20.5-31.2 at second season under different seeding rates. The results refer to capability to improve paddy yield by selection due to own higher GCV.
