Training needs of faculty members in the College of Islamic Sciences

Abstract

The current research aims to identify the training needs of faculty members in the College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala. In order to reach the goal of the research, the researcher adopted the Descriptive Analytical Method to identify the degree of the faculty members ’need for training, based on the survey method. As the researcher prepared a tool (questionnaire) that includes (31) items in two areas (the field of information and communication technologies and the educational field), to which it is answered by choosing one of the five alternatives (LEKART) scale, which is present in front of each paragraph and is (I need it very much, I need it greatly) I need it moderately, I need it less, I need it very little. The size of the research community reached (106) teaching and teaching staff, which the researcher adopted as a basic sample. The researcher used the following statistical methods: the weighted mean, the percentile weight, the squared ki, and the Pearson correlation coefficient to find the reliability.After analyzing the data, the results showed the following:1. The results indicate the training needs of the faculty members in the College of Islamic Sciences fall within the real roles of the university professor, which are consistent with the requirements of the current era, and the goals of higher education in Iraq, represented in the field of information and communication technology, and the educational field.2. The fields of study in terms of priority of training needs were ranked in descending order as follows: the field of information and communication technology, the educational field.The researcher recommended several recommendations, including: 1. Establishing a system to ensure continuous evaluation and follow-up of training programs to ensure that they meet the actual needs of faculty members.2. Adoption of the list of training needs reached by this study as a basis for designing workshops and training programs in the college by the Continuing Education Division in the college.To complement the aspects of the research, the researcher suggested the following:1. Conducting other similar studies to identify the training needs of faculty members in other colleges at Karbala University.2. Conducting a study to identify the training obstacles faced by university professors.3. Building a training program for professors of the College of Islamic Sciences according to these needs.
