Evaluating the performance of graduate students in mathematics and physics departments from the point of view of their teachers

Abstract

This research aims to: - Identify the evaluation of the performance of graduate students in the departments of Mathematics and Physics from the point of view of their teachers. To achieve the aim of the research, the following hypotheses were formulated::•There are no statistically significant differences at the significance level (0.05) between the average performance of graduate students in the Departments of Mathematics and Physics/College of Education/University of Qadisiyah from the point of view of their teachers and the acceptable performance standard.•There are no statistically significant differences at the significance level (0.05) between the average performance of graduate students in the Departments of Mathematics and Physics/College of Education/University of Qadisiyah from the point of view of their teachers and the acceptable performance standard. According to the gender variable. To verify the two hypotheses of the research, the researchers used the descriptive survey method, and the research community was identified by graduate students in the Departments of Mathematics and Physics/College of Education/University of Qadisiyah, and their number was (47) males. and female students. A simple random sample was selected from the original research community, where the sample size was (32) male and female students, (16) male and (16) female students. The researchers prepared the research requirements represented by preparing the research tool (the questionnaire) after reviewing the educational literature related to it and previous relevant studies. After the questionnaire was presented to the exploratory sample and the researchers discussed with the sample members about its paragraphs, some paragraphs were modified and then presented to a group of arbitrators, and some minor adjustments were made if the number of the final paragraphs of the questionnaire became (48) paragraphs. It is divided into (6) areas with (6) paragraphs for each field, which are (the student’s scientific personality, commitment to the specified time to complete requirements, willingness and desire to learn, evaluation results and scientific activity, mastery and mastery of scientific knowledge, education and electronic communication skills), and the stability of the tool was found. Using Cronbach's alpha equation, it was found that the stability coefficient is (0.92), which is a high stability coefficient. The data was statistically processed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program, and the following results were reached:1- Postgraduate students in the Departments of Mathematics and Physics possess the acceptable level of the academic performance standard.2- Female students outperform male students in academic performance. In light of the research results, the researchers presented a number of recommendations and suggestions.
