The effect of a psychological advising program in relieving the anxiety of sports competition for football players

Abstract

The aim of the research is to build a psychological counseling program for the players of the Nineveh football team for the preparatory stage, and to identify the level of competition anxiety for the players, and the effect of the program on the experimental group, and the difference between the experimental and control group in sports competition anxiety. The research community and its sample from the Nineveh educational team players for the preparatory stage, which numbered 40 players, and the research sample consisted of 30 players representing 75% of the original community, they were chosen in a deliberate way for reasons that serve the research procedures, and they were randomly distributed into two experimental and control groups of 12 players For each group, after excluding 6 players for the purposes of stability, the control group is characterized by a higher level of cognitive anxiety, physical anxiety and low self-confidence, because it was not exposed to the counseling program. The light of the competition anxiety scale shows that the players of the Nineveh Education Football Team suffer from a high level of cognitive anxiety and The physical, while suffering from a decrease in the dimension of self-confidence, and that the daily plan prepared by the team coach does not develop the psychological aspect, and the indicative program has an effect on the experimental group in sports competition anxiety, with the experimental group outperforming the control in sports competition anxiety and for all dimensions of the scale (anxiety Cognitive, physical anxiety, self-confidence), and recommended taking advantage of the indicative program for the current study and its adoption by sports activity, and opening courses for physical education teachers for psychological preparation in the preparation and training unit of Nineveh Education, with the adoption of psychological tests within the tests of player selection, and studying the relationship between anxiety Sports competition with the skill performance of football players
