Abstract

The research aims to improve the service at the Munthiriya border port by re-engineering the service operations to simplify the procedures at the port, reduce waiting time for completion, and facilitate the process of trade exchange.The research problem was represented in the shortage of human resources working at the port and the lengthy procedures for completing the transactions, the presence of queues of trucks loaded with imported materials waiting, the overlap of work between the ministries’ directorates and the authorities operating at the port, and the need for modern techniques in completing the transactions. The choice was made to apply the practical side of the research to the Munthiriya border port in Diyala Governorate due to its economic importance to the country and the multiple problems it suffers from. The process flow diagram to identify the nature of work at the port, which included (the entry of Iraqi and Iranian trucks to the port, examination, or movement between directorates and units operating at the port, and the accompanying waiting times between units and people, The results confirmed the presence of delays in completing the transactions due to poor coordination between the directorates operating in the rescuer, the shortage of workers, and the weak use of communication technologies, all of which negatively affected the times of service completion, increased waiting times, accumulated trucks standing in the waiting, and increased the workload of workers at the port.
