Conceptual schemes Based on the Perception of Life in the Novel "Tales of Youssef Tadros" by Adel Esmat
Abstract
Cognitive semantics is a branch of linguistics which studies the relationship between humans' mind and language. Cognitive linguistics, does not see metaphor only as a literary means, but sees human thinking as metaphorical. One of the main approaches to learn about the mindset of humans is through pictorial schemes which besides their application in normal language are seen as the foundation for metaphors and are made according to people's everyday experiences and their interaction with objective affairs. The Najib award winning (2016) novel "Yousof'd stories to lesson" is the Egyptian writer's, Esmat, , most well-known work. In this novel, the writer uses a special creativity in picturing abstract concepts. Life is one of the important areas in this novel. .The present study aims to study the life area's schemes using a descriptive analytical framework. Results show that the writer has used volume, proximity, amount, direction, movement and strength to help normal and metaphorical conceptualization of life
