Examining the Translation Strategies and Procedures used in Rendering Cultural -Bound Nominalization Expressions in the Translated Version of Kachachi’s The American Granddaughter

Abstract

This paper investigates the translation strategies and procedures used in translating 18 cultural references and nominalization expressions in the translated version of Kachachi’s novel The American Granddaughter from Arabic into English. The results of this research can assist trainee translators to improve their understanding of the effect of culture on the quality of translation. The researchers adopt two theoretical models: Venuti's domestication and foreignization (1998) and Ivir’s (1987) procedures for the translation of cultural references. This study tries to find out to what extent translation is of significance in rendering the original cultural bound-nominalization expressions by maintaining their meaning and function in the target language. The researchers adopt the qualitative approach by analyzing the data descriptively. After analyzing the selected data.
