Effect of Nitrogen Levels on Growth and Yield Characters of Two Bread Wheat Cultivars

Abstract

A field trial was carried out during season of 2009-2010 at farmer Field in Garma–Falluja town–Anbar governorate to know the effect of four levels of nitrogen fertilizer ( 50 , 100,150 and 200 Kg N. ha-1) on growth and yield characters of two bread wheat cultivars (IPA 95 and Fatth).A split plot arrangement in randomized complete block design with three replicates was used.Tow cultivars (IPA 95 and Fallah) were the mean plots and nitrogen levels (50 , 100,150 and 200 Kg N. ha-1) were the sub plots. The results showed that IPA 95 cultivars gave significant increment in most of studies characters except for 1000-kernals weight. Application higher level of nitrogen fertilizer (200 Kg N. ha-1) increased plant height, flag leaf area, number of spikes per m2, number kernels per spike, 100-kernals weight and total grain yield (ton. ha-1).The interaction between the cultivars and nitrogen levels had significant effects for all studies characters. IPA cultivar plants with 200 Kg N. ha-1 gave high mean for plant height ( 98.5 cm) and total grain yield (8.02 ton ha-1) .
