The Victorian Poetry and Rubaiyat of Omar Al-Khayyam: A Comparative Study

Abstract

The literature of the Victorian Age has certain characteristics and writers. This period reflected the social, political, economic and religious as well as intellectual controversaries of the time. It also reflected the impact of the Industrial Revolution on the Victorian people in general and the working class in particular. The period also witnessed conflict between science and religion with the appearance of the theories of Charles Darwin and his book: The Origin of Species. In addition to this the appearance of biology and astronomy affected man's mind.
