Les problèmes d’équivalence dans les dictionnaires bilingues pour les étudiants irakiens
Abstract
Bilingual dictionaries are those whose inputs and data in the original language are translated into the equivalent in the target language, so their goal is roughly a comparison between two languages as they place the vocabulary in the original language with the equivalent in the target language. These dictionaries occupy an important space during the four years of study for Iraqi students , As it is one of the main supporting elements for students of the French Language Department. Students here believe that these dictionaries must answer their questions and needs directly. And what it means for the dictionary to be bilingual for students of the French Department is for it to be both Arabic-French or French-Arab, and some students today resort to modern electronic dictionaries, whether in the form of a modern electronic machine or in the form of a special program used on the computer . This type has greatly contributed to the shortening of time, despite its problems. Our research deals with shedding light on the university general dictionary, and we are not going to talk about the different types of dictionaries such as specialized, monolingual, encyclopedic, pocket dictionaries and other dictionaries that students are not used to using. It is not surprising that a student does not find what they are looking for because no perfect dictionary is complete. Also, there is no doubt that many expressions and terms are not clearly present in the target language, except that they are more clear in their linguistic structure. Our aim in this research will be to refer to the problems that Iraqi students face when searching for the meaning of a particular word or expression in a bilingual dictionary. Where several corresponding words appear to them in the target language, and here the problem of the student is in searching for the ideal equivalent, especially when the word is specific to one language alone. We will try here to find some solutions and simple explanations about this problem among students. Our research deals with the importance of a bilingual dictionary in our age in which there are many variables between linguistic societies.
