The Snake in the Assyrian Civilization

Abstract

The Snake Played an important role in a very attentive way but in paradoxical duality. Sometimes, it is a symbol of evil sources, temptations, and death in mythology .Sometimes it is used as a symbol of life ,medicine, and recovery. For this reason ,the snake takes its part in forming the symbols of gods and worshipped materials. The Present research deals with presenting the Snake in many inscriptions whether royal or omen or oracle texts .It has different interpretation. It is also mentioned in magic texts and in incantation and prayer, which helps prevent the evil of the snake. Finally, The research sheds light on the scenes which reflect the snake in artistic works such as sculptures ,portraits , jwelleries,…etc.
