Suscpetability of different cultivars of Date palm Phoenix dactylifera L. to casualty of inflorescence rot in Some Basrah regions.

Abstract

This study was carried out to determine thesusceptibility of different cultivars of date palm Phoenixdactylifera L. which were: Barhee, Hillawii, Breim,Sayer(as female cultivars) Gannami Akhader and khakriAdie(as male cultivars) to the infection with date palminflorescence rot caused by the fungus Mauginiellascaettae Cav. in different locations in Basrah provincewhich were Abu Al-Khasseb, Al-Deer, Qurna, and Shatt Al-Arab during the 2006-2007.Results of study revealed that the highest infectionpercentage was recorded in Gannami Akhader 12.50%with significant difference than other cultivars, while thelowest percentage 2.29% recorded in Barhee cultivar.Shatt Al-Arab location had the highest percentage ofinfection with inflorescence rot disease and reached9.58%, while Abu Al-Khasseb location had the lowestpercentage 7.07%, the percentage of infection with thisdisease increased significantly during cultivation season2007 and reached 8.88% in contrast with 2006 season7.08%.About the distance of water resource, results revealedthe date palm trees cultivated close to water resource 50mwas most susceptible to the infection 11.28%, than 150m4.82%, for all tested cultivars and locations.
