Abstract
Abstract J. M. Synge is seen as one of the major dramatists who participated in establishing the Irish National drama. However, due to the method through which he presented the characters in his plays, there was a violent reaction from the audience who could not accept what they saw as "offensive" presentation of Irish characters on stage. The following paper traces audience's reaction to these plays.
