U.T.I. in chronic Diarrheal diseases in children below 2 years of age

Abstract

This study was conducted during the period from April to July 2007 involving infants less than two years of age with chronic diarrheal illnesses who were admitted to the wards and emergency unit in ALzahrraa hospital in Najaf city.124 patients included in this study, 76 males (61%)and 48 females(39%),80 patients of them (65%)had positive culture for U.T.I. The sex predominance and causative pathogens were differed according to the age of patient; as male: female ratio is (2:1)in those patients aging one year and below and the causative agents in those patients as follow:klebselia(41%),E.coli(33%),enterobacter(19%),proteus(4%),and pseudomonas(4%),while in those patients during second year of their life the male: female ratio is 1:1.6 and the causative pathogens as follow :klebselia(54%),E coli(24%),enterobacter(15%),and Staph. aureus(7%).The study also shows correlation between types of feeding and the positivity of culture for U.T.I.
