Synthesis and characterization of 4'-nitro-4-(-2-hydroxy-3-methoxy benzillidene-1-naphthylamino) azobenzene and its complexes with Cu (II), Ni (II) and Co (II) metal ions

Abstract

Abstract: New bidentate azo-azomethine dye: 4'-nitro-4-(-2-hydroxy-3-methoxy benzillidene-1-naphtjylamino) azobenzene (dvnn) was prepared by reaction of Schiff base, 2-[(1-naphtylamino) methyl] - 6-Methoxy Phenol with 4-nitro benzenediazoniumtetraflouroborate salt dissolved in acetonitrile. Cu(II),Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes of Azo-azomethine were also synthesized .Both ligand and its transition metal complexes were characterized by Infrared, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectra. Based on these spectral data the metal complexes of the synthesized ligand may be formulated as [M(dvnn)X(H2O)]:(where M=Cu(II),X= OCOCH3;Ni(II), X= Cl;and Co(II), X= Cl ).The metal complexes were formed by the coordination of N and O atoms of the ligand.
