Preparation and Characterization of New Heterocyclic SchiffBase Complexes
Abstract
Metal complexes of general formula [M(L)2]Cl2 and [Fe(L)2Cl2] where M is Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) and L is the Schiff base, 2-(pyrimidin-2-yliminomethyl) furan (FAP) are prepared. The complexes were characterized by analytical as well as spectroscopic, magnetic and conductance measurements. The infrared spectra of the complexes agree with coordination to the central metal atom through the nitrogen of the azomethine group and oxygen of the furan ring. Magnetic susceptibility data coupled with electronic spectra suggest a distorted octahedral structure for the Fe(II) complex, a tetrahedral geometry for the Mn(II), Co(II) and Zn(II) complexes, and a square planar for the Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes. Conductance measurements suggest the 1 :2 electrolytic nature of the complexes with the exception of the Fe(II) complex as of a non-electrolytic nature.
