The Effect of Using Role Play Method on Developing Scientific Thinking Skills of Sixth Primary Class in Science Textbook

Abstract

This research aims at identifying the effect of role play method on developing scientific thinking skills of sixth primary class pupils. The research is limited to the sixth primary class pupils for the academic year (2012- 2013). The sample was (52) divided into two equal groups in: age measured in months, the general average of fifth year, the average of science textbook for the fifth stage as well as the academic achievement of parents. The experimental group used role play method , whereas the control group used traditional method. The teacher herself taught both groups. The experiment lasted seven weeks. Before initiating the experience , plans of both methods and the (15) items test of scientific thinking skills made by researcher was presented to a jury of experts in methodologies that extracted the lest stability and reliability. The researcher applied pre- test on the sample. Both groups were taught according to the plans put by the teacher. Then both groups had post tested . Statistical analysis of data was done by using (SPSS). The results showed statistically significant differences between the means of development of scientific thinking skills in pre and post test for both groups and in favor of the post test. The results also showed no statistically significant differences between both groups in post- test. Given these results, the researcher made many recommendations that necessitated the use of both methods (role play and traditional) in primary schools, as well as some suggestions such as the effect of using role play on developing sixth primary class pupils` trends towards science textbook.
