Translation in the reign of Caliph Mamoun

Abstract

Al-Ma'moon was just and jurisprudent and consideredto be one of the great scholars that the nation progressed in thedays of his rule in the most fields of life and Arab sciencesreached the apogee of development particularly after beingacquainted with the sciences and arts of other countries.Translation played an influential and distinctive role intranslating the sciences of these countries into Arabic in orderto get use of it and Al-Ma'moon took care of this science,translation, and assigned men and manners and paid themlavishly and translation came to a developed phase in his time.For this reason the researcher intended in this paper to showthe reader the stages that translation has went through and itsprogress and the Caliph's attitude to it
