THE IMPACT OF THE SUBSTITUTION OF SESAME SEED MEAL INSTEAD OF SOYBEAN MEAL IN THE RATIONS OF FATTENING LOCAL SHARABI CALVES

Abstract

This study was conducted on Al-Rasheida station farms,Mosul, from 17/10/2012 to 17/2/2013, by using 12 sharabi local calves of about 135-160 kg.live body weight and 8-10 months old to invest-igate the effect of substituting soybean meal by sesame seed meal at 18 and 23% .Animals were divided into 3 groups according to their live body weight. All groups of calves were fed iso-nitrogen (15.5%CP) and iso-caloric (28 Mcal/kg.ME.) diets. Experimental rations and wheat straw were offered at 2.5% and 1% of live body weight respectively, for 120 days. At the end of the experiment, body dimensions of all calves were measured, also all calves were slaughtered and their carcass traits were taken. The results showed no significant effect was found of using sesame seed meal on daily and total body gain ,final weight, body dimensation, almost all carcass traits and physical composition of three rib region(9,10 and 11).It can be concluded that it is possible to added sesame seed meal to substitute the soybean meal in the rations of growing calves without any adverse effects on their performance traits.
