INFECTION OF CYPRINUSCARPIOWITH Bothriocephalus gowkongensis Yeh, 1955 IN AL-Suwaira DISTRICT, SOUTH OF BAGHDAD, IRAQ

Abstract

A random sample of common carp Cyprinus carpio were detected in Al-Wahda central hatchery/Ministry of Agriculture and was examined on 28/5/2011.The fishes were found to be infected by Bothriocephalus gowkongensis. The examination showed clinical signs on fishes included swelling of abdomen and fishes characterized by heavy movements. The histopathological changes on the site of infection (the intestine) included severe hemorrhagic enteritis, increase in mucosal cells, hyperplasia and hypertrophy of goblet cells, inflammatory cell infiltration, slight fibrosis, hemosiderin deposits and hemorrhage in the liver.
