ان النفط والغاز في قطر لهما الاثر الكبير في حياة المجتمع فمن ناحية يمثلان ثروة قطر الرئيسية الى جانب النفط الخام والعنوان الكبير لقطر في نادي النفط العالمي او ما يسمى (منظمة اوبك) ومن ناحية اخرى يمثلان على مستوى المجتمع ثروته الحقيقية ورأسماله الاساسي الذي من خلاله يتم تمويل المشاريع والبناء وكذلك الصرف لاحتياجات المجتمع السنوية، اذا فهو في الاتجاهين يمثل الثروة التي تمتلكها قطر، اذ تعد دولة قطر من الدول الرائدة في انتاج وتصنيع وتصدير الغاز الطبيعي، لتحتل قطر عالميا المرتبة الثالثة في احتياطي الغاز الطبيعي بلغت احتياطاتها حوالي (25.110) مليار متر مكعب، اي ما نسبته (48%) من احتياطي الدول العربية و (13.7) من الاحتياطي العالمي في عام 2011، وارتفعت كميات الانتاج من (4.4) مليار متر مكعب عام 1979، الى حوالي (146.8) في عام 2011، كما ارتفعت صادرات قطر من الغاز الطبيعي من حوالي (2.9) مليار متر مكعب عام 1997 الى حوالي (109.75) عام 2011، لتحتل بذلك دولة قطر ثاني دولة على المستوى العالمي بعد روسيا في انتاج وتصدير الغاز الطبيعي.
