Objective: To throw light on the prevalence of prehypertension among a sample of secondary school female students in Baghdad.Subjects and methods: This is cross sectional study including female students from 10 randomly selected governmental secondary schools in Baghdad during. The collected data included blood pressure measurement ,height and weight to estimate BMI, then they were classified according to blood pressure tables for females into prehypertensives, hypertensive and normotensives.Results: The Prevalence of Prehypertension of 700 females was 55%, hypertension 16% both 1st and 2ndstage, prehypertension did not spare the underweight girls showing a prevalence of 45%.Conclusion More than half of secondary school girls were prehypertensives; therefore, measuring blood pressure for this age group is critical to prevent the sequelae of prehypertension turning into undiagnosed hypertension.Keyword: Prevalence, prehypertension, secondary school females
