Geartn.

Investigation of the inhibitory effect of the extracts from Silybum marianum (L.) Geartn.; Lactuca scariola Linn. and Polygonum aviculare Linn. were carried out against plant pathogenic fungus Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn. The plants were collected from field in the College of Agriculture-University of Baghdad, Abu-Ghraib during winter season of 2007-2008. Plant materials were dried in shed at laboratory temperature and grinded by a blander for preparation of extracts by cold water method. Extracts from the plant were added to PDA for antifungal activities test against R. solani. The results of this study showed that the highest growth inhibition of the fungus was observed with extract from Silybum marianum, which gave 100% inhibition of fungal growth as compared with 43.7% and 62.5% inhibition of fungal growth with Lactuca scariola and Polygonum aviculare extracts respectively. The results also showed that the lowest concentration of 3% of Silybum marianum extract caused highest growth inhibition of R. solani. ER -
