TY - JOUR ID - TI - Linguistic Criteria For Error Gravity AU - PY - 2014 VL - IS - 3 SP - 80 EP - 100 JO - Journal of Education and Scientific Studies مجلة الدراسات التربوية والعلمية SN - 22248084 AB - It is widely believed that " teachers do refer consistently to criteria of degrees of erroneousness when they mark , even though they do not explicitly formulate these criteria " ( James , 1977 : 116 ). Thus , the study seeks to find out the criteria to which reference is made in assessing the different gravities of errors . Therefore , all the judges have been asked to explain why they have regarded particular errors as very serious . The study consists of three sections . Section One is an introductory one . It presents the main types of errors that are singled out in the literature and then it presents a brief review of the different approaches to them . Section Two discusses the linguistic criteria considered in the literature in assessing the different gravities of errors . Section Three is devoted to the study . It presents a brief description of the data used for the study . It also presents a brief description of the subjects and the procedure of the study . This is followed by presentation of the results with discussion . Finally there will be conclusions and suggestions .
