The melt quenching technique was used for the preparation of standardsamples of PbOeZnF2eP2O5 glass system in the compositional series containing 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.8 and 1.0 mol% ofmolybdenum. Spectroscopic studies, ESR, optical absorption and IR reveal the presence of molybdenum ions with the MoO4 andMoO6 structural groups in these glasses. The oxidation state of molybdenum are mostly existing in Mo5þ up to 0.2 mol% beyondthat concentration exist in Mo6þ state.
