So, through touching the political affairs, the novel criticizes act of policy towards Latin America with its ridiculousness, neglect, and incessant repetition of the tragedy. It combines magic with reality to present in a marvellous manner myths, legends, and signs as well as modernity and technologies of the age. These are the key elements of the novel which represent the spoken past of Colombia.
