The Londoner Marlow comes to propose to Kate, a daughter of Mr. Hardcastle who is a rich countryman. Marlowe and his friend Hastings follow the macaroni fashion that Goldsmith criticizes in this play. He was making a point in this play about British masculinities in which this fashion was a distinctive and negative feature at the time. This paper discusses Goldsmith’s point that he has put in a comic way in comparison to bumpkin behavior represented by the character of Tony.

تم انتاج مسرحية (تمسكنت حتى تمكنت) اول مرة عام 1773 على مسرح كوفرت غاردن وحققت نجاحا كبيرا مباشره. تقدم الشاب اللندني مارلو للفتاة كيت ابنه السيد الثري هاردكاسل. يتبع مارلو وصديقه هاستنغز موضه الغندور التي ينتقدها الكاتب كولد سمث في هذه المسرحية. حيث تناول الكاتب شخصية الرجل البريطاني وهذه الموضه التي كانت في حينها سلوك غريب وغير مقبول. يركز هذا البحث على وجهة نظر الكاتب كولد سمث التي عرضها بشكل كوميدي ووضعها موضع مقارنه مع سلوك الرجل الريفي المتمثله بشخصية توني.} }
