In Yemen the available reported data noticed increasing of cancer cases although it was not representative for all the country. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of cancer cases reported by the higher medical committee for abroad treatment (HMB) in Hadhramout governorate (at Eastern Yemen) during the period from Jan 1997 to December 2001. A retrospective review of all the files of patients with cancer reported by (HMB) was performed . Data were collected about socio-demographic characteristics of patients (age, sex, address of patients) and clinic-pathological characteristics of the diseases (clinical diagnosis and results of histopathology). A total of 778 patients with cancer were reported at the period of Jan 1997 – Dec 2001, most of them are male (51.5%) and at the ages between 41 to 60 years (34.3%). The most frequent types of cancer were cancers of digestive system (19.3%), lymph and reticuloenothelial system (15.6%) and cancer of breast (13%) with variation from males where cancer of digestive system is the most to females where breast cancer is the most. Cancer is a health problem in Hadhramout despite the limited source of data, cancer registry is necessary to monitor the trends of the problem.
