TY - JOUR ID - TI - Synthesis of Antimony Oxide Nanoparticles by Pulsed Laser Ablation in Wet Media AU - W.K. Khalef PY - 2013 VL - 9 IS - 3 SP - 13 EP - 16 JO - Iraqi Journal of Applied Physics المجلة العراقية للفيزياء التطبيقية SN - 18132065 23091673 AB - In this work, antimony oxide (Sb2O3) nanoparticles were directly synthesized by pulsed laser ablation of an antimony (Sb) plate placed on the bottom of quartz vessel containing 3ml of ultra pure double distilled deionized water (DDDW). The piece of metal was irradiated by focused energy of 500 mJ Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) pulses at different shots (50, 70 and 120 pulses). The influence of the number of laser pulses on the formation and characterization of the formed nanoparticles were studied throughout AFM and XRD measurements, in combination with UV–Visible spectroscopy. Also, the effects of operating parameters on nanoparticles composition, production rate and size were studied. The XRD measurements revealed crystallization structure of Sb2O3 nanoparticles. The UV–Visible spectrum of the colloidal nanoparticles shows maximum absorbance around the UV region, which indicates the formation of Sb2O3 nanoparticles of energy band gap of about 2.8, 2.9 and 3.1 eV for laser shots of 50, 70 and 120 pulses, respectively. The particle diameter was determined by Scherer's equation to be about 59 nm.
