The Presence of the names of Assyrian Cities and States in the Personal Names in Light of the Cuneiform Resources
Abstract
One of the anecdotes of Assyrian personal names in the Neo Assyrian Periodin (911-612 B.C), that most of them carry in their essence the names of Assyrian towns, cities and capitals. These names indicated the general political situation at that time especially that the Assyrian age was distinguished of expansion outside the border of Assyrian state through military campaigns along with the internal displaced policy used. In addition ,the policy of expansion power and joining the neighboring regions to the borders of Assyrian kingdom. Perhaps the origin of naming these cities was the pride and belonging to Assyrian state. The majority of these names, which were varieties of masculine, femine and compound ones, ended of the final sound (ia) which indicates descent or place of birth or belonging to these states. One of the most important cities were Ninu,a, Kalhu, Libbi-ali, Barhalzi, Ruqaha, Kalzi, Arba'illu Arrapha, Birtu, Kurabailu, Dur-bel-harran-bel-usur, Harranu, Rasapu, Qumai, Qurani and Lahiru.
