Effect of the Forward Speed and the Operating Depth of the Subsoil Laying Manure Machine on some of Sorghum Crop (Sorghum bicolor L. moench) Growth and Yield Parameters

Abstract

A field experiment were conducted in the agriculture college field, Basrauniversity in autumn season 2013. A manure subsoil laying machine was used. Theexperiments parameters were four operating depths 20, 30, 40 and 50 cm and twoforward speeds 0.31 and 0.50 m sec-1 of clay loam texture. The plowed was plowed bymoldboard plow down to 25 cm before using the subsoil laying manure machine.Sorghum crop (sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) was planted after laying the manureunder the soil surface. The results showed that the operating depth of 50 cm surpassedthe other operating depths by giving the highest plant was (223.52 cm), biggest drymatter (16.11 ton ha-1), biggest number of seeds per head (1961.50) and highest seedproduction (5.15 ton ha-1). while the operating depth 20 cm (shallow depth) gave thehighest weight of 1000 seeds (31.83 gm) only but gave the lowest values for the restof the parameter. The machine of forward speed of 0.5 m sec-1 surpassed the forwardspeed of 0.31 m sec-1 in giving the highest percentage of seeds emergency (79.79 %),the highest plant (209.52 cm), the highest dry matter (14.29 ton ha-1), the biggestnumber of seeds per head (1701.33) and highest seeds production 3.97 ton ha-1compared with the forward speed of 0.31 m sec-1.
